12 ways to feel sunny this week in Detroit

In honor of Memorial Day yesterday, we want to give a shoutout to everyone putting their lives on the line to keep our country safe. This includes those showing up to work during the pandemic — we appreciate you!

We also hope you had a blast dancing to #MovementAtHome, whether it was in the yard or out on the lake! And, in case you missed it, we gathered memorable Movement tales from past years from some of our readers.

Even with a shorter week ahead, we’ve rounded up some major happenings, virtual gatherings and fresh new things to do in Detroit! As always, please send tips on events you’re loving in metro Detroit to events@detourdetroiter.com.

During the two-night Everybody Vs COVID-19 Unity Festival, 20 entertainers and influencers will be sharing music and messages promoting continued safety measures for Detroiters. The full line-up hasn’t been released just yet, but expect to see big names like Big Sean, Mayer Hawthorne, Sada Baby, DJ D Nice and Gmac Cash — the rapper who has gone viral in recent weeks with his rhymes about Gov. Gretchen Whitmer and COVID-19. The event was created in partnership with fashion designer Tommey Walker of the Detroit VS Everybody brand. Catch it on the city’s YouTube, Facebook and Instagram channels on Friday, May 29 and Saturday, May 30 from 7 to 10 p.m.

🍿 Drive-ins are in: It’s hard to know when movie theaters will reopen, but you can still get those movie-watching thrills with the fam while social distancing at Canterbury Village in Lake Orion starting Friday, May 29. And yes, you can still get popcorn and snacks. First films on deck? “Sonic the Hedgehog” and “The Secret Life of Pets 2.”
